A terrace for contemplation and to observe the rising sun above lake Balaton commissioned by the Benedictine Abbey of Tihany in Hungary.

Every part of this instrument: the wall, seat, handrail are composed to reveal something special...

Viewed from a stone seat the  carefully aligned copper inserts mark the position of the sunrise on special days of the year.

The inscription helps identify the date and exact time of the sun crossing the horizon.

A narrow water stream points towards the rising sun on days of the Equinox (21st March & September)

We used a surprisingly hard lime stone from a nearby quarry. All the contributors were local craftsmen and only old school techniques were used to build this special place.
